Hi, I have a Honda Recon, and i just encountered a problem with it. Which i found was very rare. The problem is..My four wheeler will idle, but as soon as i push the throttle in, the machine shuts off as if there is bad gas in the fourwheeler. I tryed putting gas cleaner into the machine, but that didnt seem to do any good. It's possible that i did get some bad gas. but im im just asking if there are any other alternatives for this problem. if so please reply asap, thank you

It is so hard to diagnose quads over the internet, but we can GET R DONE, we need as much relevant info as you can give about what happened, what have you done, etc.
When was the last time it ran ok?
What changed from then to now?
Spark plug is new?
Air filter is clean?
You did not play submarine with it?
It has had the gas drained and fresh gas put back in?

Guys,

I JUST had this same problem start. It happened right after I tried to play submarine with it. As the water got to the top of the wheels, we shut it off before it ingested water. After pushing it out of the water, it starts and idles beautifully. But when you even breathe on the throttle, it dies. Idling for 15 minutes did nothing. I tryed shutting the fuel off and then draining from the carb, but no change. There is no water in the air cleaner compartment and the spark plug is fine. The gas quality and quantity are fine. In the end, it starts and idles well, but it can't take even a millimeter of throttle movement or the engine will die. Any hints would be helpful. This is a 2006 Honda 250 Recon.

Try opening the drain on the bottom of the carb, but leave the gas valve on so you get a good flow through the carb to wash out anything in there.

Drain out about a cup full??

alright....well, with the throtle problem....i'm not too sure.....mine usually does that only when its cold.....try atleast driving it (to where it will move a little bit) with the choke on .....the might work and if it does....drive it around for a little bit and it might clear something out....

as far as mods.....

i dont know much about an 03' but theres some things you can do...

new tires
highlifter 2 in. lift
comkpletely skid plate it out

just go to google and search like atv accessories and things like that....thats what i did....

2006 honda recon 250 2x4
mods-
2 in. lift
heated grips
a-arm guards
rear-22x11x9 mudlites
snorkeled exhaust and air box
everything done to make it ride underwater
painted rims black

im pretty sure thats it lol

ok i have a problem with the clutch of my recon. in first gear ill go down a steep incline and there is no engine braking. when i crank it up and then turn in off it sounds like something is spinning in the engine. then once it slows down it will click and stop. it sounds like a bearing. but they both started at the same time so they could be linked. need help. mine is a 2000 Honda Recon

My Recon would not continue to run either.

It would turn over and idle for a few seconds but then would die.

I simply tried it with the gas cap off and it started and ran just fine. Must have been some sort of vacuum problem in the fuel tank. After it ran I just put the gas cap back on and it has not had any more problems with starting or running.

Hope this helps.

if you look at the back light you can take the wires and splice them to a harness

I have a Honda TRX250 Recon also and i have sunk mine plenty of times what you have to do is tip the bike up on its end were the front of the atv is in the air and let the water come out of the fourwheeler and then gas should start coming out of the hose out the bottom of the fourwheeler and thats just the flodding hose so its dont flood its self but smeel that and see if its gas then drane the carb. and start it back up and when you go to give it gas pull the choke up and keep puling it up and down as you reve the bike and it clears all the gas line and stuff and thats how i do mine goood luck

My wife has a 2006 honda 250. When she blasts a water hole her atv will idle good but will not take the throttle as well. Here's what I've found. The air intake box had water in it. I cleaned out all the water and the 250 ran normal. I've came to the conclusion that the air intake piping get water from the splash. Even if none runs back to the filter housing, there is still moisture in the intake piping. When idling there is minimal air intake. Giving throttle draws in moisture causing the atv to die. I'm going to try to modify the air intake tube as soon as I have time. Hope this helps someone.
