04 grizzly 660 rolled into tree no visible damage done. atv shifts in and out of diff lock just fine. however, the indicator is stuck in diff lock. this makes engine governor think that diff lock is still engaged and makes the motor cut out at 22 mph. looking for ways to bypass governor or suggestions to possible cause

Its all electrical, check where your wires plug in on the diff, it could be pinched or not connected good. clean it good and put some dielectric grease on it and plug it back in, then un hook the battery and wait a few minutes then hook it back up, this might let it reset.

I did take off the 2 connectors in the front, they were clean. But I havent taken the battery connection off and back on. I will try that before I take it to the shop. Might save me a few grand. HAHA

OK I took it to the shop, they just called with an estimate and I need someone elses opinion. They said I need carb rebuild, floats, jets etc. labor and all for that is almost 700. Sounds like crap to me.

4WD locking diff said I needed a new speedo display. Almost 400 for that. Again I think it is mis diagnosed. Said my recoil doesnt work, needed a spark plug, recharge of the battery and some other misc crap total everything about 1300.

Now I am not an idiot, I just dont have time to fix all this crap but I refuse to pay that price for all of the work. Anyone have any other options I could try. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First you can buy a new carb for around 250.-300.00, you can find parts on ebay like the speedo for cheap. I would take the speedo off, wash it out dry it in the sun or with hair dryer and put dielectric grease on the connections, the carb can be cleaned but you have to do it very good and best change the main and idle jets cause they are so small its easy for them to stop up. I guess if you dont want to pay them or do it yourself you can try to find a independant powersports shop and get them to take a look.

Mudding and water ruins more atvs than anything, they are not made to submerge, when you do you ruin the carbs and a lot of times the motor, only takes a little muddy water thru the carb to destroy the rings and valves. Only time you should venture into deep mud or water is on something that has been snorkeled and water proofed properly.

Update. I have now fixed all the problems. As for you people that are have the diff lock problems, there is a way to bypass with the ease of cutting one wire going to the CDI box. I had a an electrical genious friend map it out at his work. Your difflock light wont go out but you will be able to go over the 21-22 MPH issue. I dont suggest it but it can certainly get you by until you can get teh part.
